I have been thinkin' the past few days about tellin' JayP he should turn around when he gets to AW and ride back to Banff? What do you think of that?? I think it would be the coolest thing ever! Although, I would be insanely jealous and of course would want to do it too!

Parts of it would be rideable. A few of those roads in Montana and Colorado are definitely trafficked by snowmobiles in the winter. Great Divide Basin and most of the paved sections would be dry. Others, well, nothing a pair of skis, ice ax, and avy beacon can't take care of. A packable sled to haul the bike while skiing? Totally doable.
Wow Jilleo! Intense, I like it! But do you really think it would be doable in December? I kinda like the March-April idea as it seems there would be more of chance of actual completion rate, the S-N idea too. Hmmm, got me thinkin'...

Seems like a GPS that saves logs would be acceptable, so that Matthew (and/or Scott?) can verify route compliance.
This whole thing about providing Spots to people is ridiculous. If it's being done to assist the racer (by enabling him/her access to 911, check-ins, custom messages, etc.), then it's support. If it's done to satisfy the urges of Spot-stalkers, then it's interference. Either way, it's NOT self-support, and it's not serendipitous trail magic. Bah!
The only reason Jay is carrying a spot is to prove he completed the course, believe me, I know he'd rather NOT carry it. The SPOT is not going to help him in anyway, if anything it will slow him down, it's more of a pain in the ass to take care of the SPOT then anything. Wah-wah-wah, gesh already!

I've got the coordinates from Scott and and he agreed that this would not be considered outside help. I'll try to get it tomorrow morning and drop it in the mail by the afternoon. Any ideas on where I should send it? We're heading into a holiday weekend so there is no way its going to arrive anywhere before Tuesday.
Sweet! Thanks. I will figure it out and advise on where to send it. Really appreciate you doing this.

I'm about an hour away in Missoula and was considering going after it tomorrow. He may be beyond Butte at that point. However, I could mail to a bike shop somewhere down the route. Does anyone know how to get the coordinates of where it last transmitted from?
Also, would doing this be considered outside help?
It would be great if you could do that Aaron. I really do not think this would be considered outside help. Will you please keep me posted on your plans? & let me know if I can help in anyway. Thanks!

T-Race: Playing catch-up from the last few days... Congratulations!! How did Jay like being on the "spot stalker" side? You sounded great on the call! :-)
Thanks! You'll have to ask JayP that question, but I do know that he was glued to the computer. I'm a happy person, I like to share that. Thanks again! See ya out there!

It probably wasn't the race you wanted but I'd say you definitely rocked it. Your call ins always were upbeat even when dealing with adversity. I for one admired how you just dealt with it and keep rolling along. And you still came in under Jill's old record time. Congrads again.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Your right it wasn't the race I wanted, but I know I am so fortunate to be able to complete such a huge accomplishment that contains so many variables. I hope to be able to come back someday, with a louder alarm clock fer shure! Best to ya!

Hey fellow TDer's, I'm looking for a ride to the start. I live in Victor ID, and can get to Whitefish or the border, but need a ride from there, if anyone is going that way?
Thanks!

I still can't get the idea of doing it on a tandem semi-recumbent out of my head, but would need a co-rider to do that. Curious have any of the Fat Bikes (pugsley type) done well in the event yet. I wonder if being able to ride through snow and sand would help them v.s weight penalty? Is there a tandem record? To many ideas not enough races.
Jay and I have the tandem course record, set in 2009 18days 13 hrs 50mins
