Atpham, I saw Raul at the restaurant in bailey he likely called you from Monday night. He was going to ride up the road to camp with a friend(another racer). He was tired but hadn't lost his appetite as he killed a burger(always a good sign). He seemed in good shape mentally too. I am sure he is having the ride of his life out there. I wish I had more info for you.

Todd Johnson is out. I picked him up on Kenosha after some stomach issues. His light and fast experiment didn't work. He's bummed but will be back. Best of luck to all of those still on course.

I'll jump in with the first photo of the thread. I dropped off Todd Johnson this am for a 4am start. You can see in the the pic he has an uber light kit as he is attempting to better his 5day:18hr finish time LY. It looks like he is in Buff Creek now, and on schedule to hit Bailey later this am as was his plan.

Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Bike choice for CT

I would consider your component choice as important as your bike. I had to ride into Salida to get my hydraulic brakes fixed this year, and am now considering mechanical discs for next year. I rode a fs 29er with no issues other than my brakes, so you never know. It's just one of the many choices you have to make and IMO is part of the fun of planning. But like someone said in their blog, you'll be riding like a six year old before too long, so I would just use a bike you are super comfortable On and go over it with a fine tooth comb before you fly out. Good luck with you decisions and your race!

I have been planning on riding it this year for more than a year now. So depending on dates, I hope to ride the official CTR, but if not I plan on riding it on my own. There was talk (forum talk last year) of racing in backwards and starting in Durango. Curious to see how it shakes out as that is the way I am leaning on riding it. I hope to lock in my dates and plans over the next few weeks.
