I run the PI X-Alp (the one you linked to) with Candies. Great shoe. I end up doing some HAB on almost every ride i do and these shoes are up to anything I throw their way. Techy step-up moves on granite to long sandy slogs. Wore them on the CTR last year without complaint. Just ordered another pair for this year.

In the spirit of the TD and the northbound CTR this year I though I'd see where the spike landed last year. Looks like it was Ethan (SB) and Dan H. (NB) who hit on HWY114 at 1:30pm on 8/1.
Where will it hit this year?

erin- yeah, I've ridden those routes before (except for from the turn off the main road up to rocky bottom lake). Did a solid ride from Bishop, up over Coyote (that's what the area your routes are in is called), and down to Big Pine. Excellent and strenuous riding. There are plenty of overnight opportunities up there. The strava route i posted with activity #50845980 has the initial climb and some of the road on it. The only problem with that first climb is the landowner (whose property we cross about 100' of, decided to put a locked gate/ no trespassing sign up. Sucks, and a sign of more LA mentality making its way up here). There is a bypass but it's also on private property. We'll see what happens. Give me a hollar next time you might be in the area, if schedule permits I'd join you for some riding.

cool! yeah, I keep trying to go tubeless but my love for the Smoke/Dart combo (decades old setup but still the best) keeps me in the stone age. Just cant get the bead to seat with them.
Getting those last minute items in order and ready to roll!!

so, i suspect it would be wise to run some sealant in my tubes for this race but just want to get some local wisdom on it. Sealant or no sealant?

With the HcX, I think once the file is save to the SD card it can only be viewed and/or exported from an SD card reader. I don't think the GPS unit accesses the saved file from the SD card. I know I have to remove the card from my HcX and read the SD card straight from my computer.
Related question: When the HcX is set to record to the SD card, does it simultaneously record to internal memory and the card? Sometimes I get the memory is 99% full and assumed that was internal memory. At what point does the HcX save the track to the SD card?

Full circumnavigation of the Sierra Nevada geologic formation. Basically Tehachapi in the south, Fredonyer Pass in the north, west and eastern foothills to connect the passes. Around 850 mile loop, but breaks up nicely into shorter trips. Still in infant stages. Map, ride, remap, ride, etc... Once big chunks are in good shape I'll post up and see if anybody wants to ride some

I'm currently in the process of mapping and riding a route that circumnavigates the Sierra Nevada. It would be possible to tie into that route either on the west or east side. It would be great to have a nice west coast route that is mostly singletrack.

Thanks Dave, ...so a mass start with the 200, continue on the 311 where the two separate on Hwy 12, rejoin the 200 and finish with the 200. Any reason not to do the ride this way (other than it is not the official route for either route)? It works out to about 320 miles. I do like the mass starts and 300+ miles is just a good distance.

I downloaded the zip files for the 311 & 200 and it appears that the 311 start is different than the 200. Is that accurate and is the 311 zip file the most up-to-date? Planning and hoping to make this desert odyssey this summer!

Looks like Eddie will be in by midnight. He's putting in a 40hr work week in just over a day and a half. The rest of the field moving into SD are pushing a great pace also. Lots of good racing to enjoy.
