5  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Two Fish bottle cages - stability issues, any solutions? on: May 06, 2013, 01:16:50 AM
You could try friction tape, or just hose clamp the cages to the fork. I would still use tape to protect the forks.
6  Forums / Bikepacking / Re: Great Divide: North to South or South to North? on: April 24, 2013, 02:46:53 PM
I went north to south. I think this way is better. You start right out with killer scenery from a town. You can get food and parts as needed. There isn't squat at the south end, including camp sites or restaurants. It is just easier to be in civilization to start. I think most of the big hills and technical spots are definitely easier this way too. Just my 2 cents, Harry

I have a eureka spitfire one. Brand new at around $130. I got mine for $90 in these classified. Around 3 lbs. it is a real tent, not that I am against the ultra light stuff.

Mine broke as well. I have heard Salsa is redesigning them and will warranty broken ones. They should be out in the spring. I bought Cleaveland Mountaineering Everything bags for my wife's bike. They worked great for our 10week tour in NZ . 2 40 bottles were no problem. Harry

Kenda Nanoraptors. The preferred tires for the Divide race, or so I'm told. I have around 1500 miles or so on mine and am pretty happy.

Most of my bags are by Revelate. The best. Period. Cleveland mountaineering and Porcelain Rocket are a close second. I have bags by all three and others. So first hand experience is speaking.

I mounted two of the original models on my wife's Reba. I couldn't find p clamps large enough, so I used pipe strap. It's not pretty but works fine. We are currently touring in NZ and 600 miles later they are still carrying 40 oz of water each just fine. I just had my first anything cage break 2 days ago. This is a better way. Harry

I rode it this August. Hot and dry. But good. Sept might be better. Find out when hunting season is and DON'T go then. If you start south and go north, you can get a big day in and see some really nice country. I rode the last 28 miles In 2 1/2 hours. The northern end is in the middle of nowhere. The southern end you have Medora, food beer and hot water.
