Currently I enjoy the rails to trails but lets face it those aren't off road trails. WI has a number of mountain bike areas but they are more short loops in one area and not really what you think of when you think of bikepacking.

Anyone know of any trails in WI for riding more distance from one location to another?

What type of bike is he doing this on? Doesn't appear to be a road bike. Certain photos it looks like a mountain bike but then other photos the tires don't look like moutain bike size tires. Hard to find good photos up close of just the bike or any information about the bike.

Hey, I've noticed that Topeak has an entire range of Bikepacking bags.....is it worth getting a few of those initially for overnighters, or is it worth plopping down for the more handmade boutique jobs?

I would stay away from Topeak. Have had their bags and also bike pump and they are junk. Would never buy another product from them again.

I find myself to be turning into a long distance rider. I like the rides that are 50-100 miles long. So far all of my rides have been day rides so there is no reason to camp etc. On my current bike Trek 6000 I have a rear rack with the Topeak MTX bag with the fold down panniers. I'm would like to upgrade to a Trek 8500 but the 8 series for Trek doesn't have the bolting areas for the rear rack.

Through this site I have found the Epic Design and Carousel Design seat bags. How well do these work? How supportive are they? To me they look like they aren't supported much and hang out quite a bit from the back of the seat. I would be looking at the normal size. Is this a good step to go in getting away from the rear rack?

Later I will be asking more about equipment etc and that one would take on a trip should I want to overnight but for now I'm thinking just the seat bag.  Is one of these brand bags better then the other? They both seem to be pretty good.

Ok so this is my first post and just learned of the site. Not trying to start a war or anything but what's to stop anyone from riding the trail on a MTB? I read above about the terrian so that could be a problem but it's not like there are check points where enforcement people sit are there? I'm just thinking this great big long trail. Other then passing a hiker here or there who would know? On the rails to trails I ride you need to purchase I pass. I bought a yearly one. I have yet to be stopped by anyone to check for this pass. Don't worry not thinking of doing it just the thought on who would stop them popped in my head while I was reading this.
