Nice! I'm trying to figure out some routes here as well, I have few ideas.

I like the idea of 1 ring in the front but it seems so limiting, you just cant get the gear range. Singlespeed, well that's an other story,  only the really crazy guys do it here. I find it's just to slow, derailleurs are really not that complicated.

Not really bike packing... but just came back from a New Zealand trip with the family and of course had to bring the bike with me! Loved it, next time I go I'm for sure bringing my bikepacking gear. Hope you like it.

remember it does only weight 1.5lbs. For it's seize and weight it's hard to beat.

I personally think in order to call them "the best" (whatever that means...) they must have at least 75% single track and not only dirt roads. To me a dirt road/logging road don't make good bikepacking and get pretty boring. What these trails sometimes loose in distance they make up in awesomeness.

I find it's almost better with kids, what you can't do in distance/difficulty they make up in enthusiasm. They seem to see things we don't, like fairies! You know... things we haven't noticed for a long time. They see everything through different eyes, wouldn't change it for the world!

I have the bug as well. I'm in the process of getting my kids into it, they love camping just can't get enough.

I love those mountains, a few years back I hiked around Torla/Broto with my wife for a few days. The Pyrenees are so beautiful! What I liked the most, besides the super cheap wine and food (well after spending time in Barcelona!) was the small huts and chapels in the middle of nowhere, that the kind of thing we don't have here. Love it! can't wait to go back with the bike next time.

I wish I could join you on a trip like that! I'm also a flyfishing/biking guy and have done both together many times. Not much advice, I just pack my regular bikepacking gear and as far as flyfishing goes I bring a 6 weight 4 piece packing rod, reel with floating line and fly box that's about it. Next year I'm adding a pack raft when I go out that should bring it to an other level!
