That looks awesome Sean, nice work.  It takes a lot to get one of these put together without the backing of a trail advocacy/maintenance group.

I merged the tracks in topofusion to get the big picture.  Gotta say, bring your climbing legs Wink

Link below goes to image.  I get 437 miles and over 82k' vert.  Yaaaaa.

Thanks for putting this together.  I've never been in the sierras before and I'm hoping for this race to be my introduction...

anyone have any luck with the gpx link on the CSTR website?  I was hoping to upload it into connect.garmin or ridewithgps.com so I could see something other that a bunch of text.

Would this route be rideable in late July?  As a teacher I'll never be able to make that starting date. Looks amazing.

You may want to try loading the file in Topofusion on your PC or Adze on your Mac. I haven't had luck trying to upload the full file to Garmin Connect. You should be able to split the routes up in one of these programs and then upload it into Garmin Connect. This is the only one I've played with so far: http://connect.garmin.com/course/3094067

thanks Siv.   trying to get some basic idea of what will be available along the route as far as stores/food/lodging.  unfamiliar with this area.

Yah, I'm totally in! I'm still recovering from Tib and Fib fractures from a skydiving collision in March, but I will be ready for this one.

The track looks like it is going to have some incredible views. I would also like to know what kind of resupply options there will be throughout the race. Also, are there going to be any map cues/water source info before the start? One more quick question for you Sean, is Scott going to set up all the Spot stuff on Trackleaders for you?

When you open up the document just do a "save as" This will put the text document in your document folder of your computer. I believe you're going to need some sort of mapping program, I don't think Garmin Connect will allow you to import GPX files so you'll need something like Topofusion or Basecamp to view the file. From there it's just an import deal, the text is essentially the GPX file in it's basic form. I'm not an expert on this stuff but let me know if you can't make it work.

Tanner,
Yes the views can be pretty amazing on the route, not the wide open sky stuff you get in AZ, but spectacular none the less. You should be able to put together a resupply source list pretty easy, it goes through many towns. I'll list some of the more out of the way places for you out of towners.

I don't know yet if I'll do a cue sheet or not, I would like to but don't currently have the technical expertise to do it. It's something I would like to do, but I'll have to spend some time on it.

Water isn't really a problem here in the Sierras, I'll cue you into any dry sections of which there are only a couple of 25 miles sections, not really a problem.

I'll suggest a couple of maps to use that should be readily available, basically the Tahoe NF and the El Dorado NF are going to the the biggest ones to have if you're not familiar with the area. The route does traverse some other NF, but those two are the biggest. I'm not a big map guy, I'm sure with a little work you can piece one together of the whole route on line from the comfort of your couch. The route up to Foresthill is all in the Auburn State Recreation Area and a map is available for that as well.

Matt Lee has contacted me about tracking, I see no reason not to do it, but I haven't contacted him yet.

I still need to decompress/grieve/heal a little bit over my failed AZTR quest, but I'll have to get real serious about this very quickly. Let me know if any of you have more questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

I feel if I post in this thread it will force me to do this.

I have never done anything this intense. My hope is just to finish.

Oh yeah...I'll also be doing this on my eventual "Almost 29er Cross-Check" build (40mm Mondials + On One Midge Bars). Just need to figure out how to pack things next!
