Similar to last year, starting the "race discussion" thread here.... while putting an end to the 37-page pre-race talk.

Something like an hour and a half in, and That is one impressive blue/pink/yellow dot peloton strung out along the Spray River.  Gonna be fun to "watch" the action unfold.

Follow and discuss ...

What a fantastically diverse group of riders, and 102 of them to boot!  What a field!  Nice to see 10 women start this year's edition.  Seems like a lot more Canadian's giving it a go this year as well.  Throw in the 2nd tandem race team, a Kiwi, an Aussie, an Italian, an Israeli, a handful of New Yorkers, and I haven't even flipped through all riders yet.

Gonna give it some time for all the dots to connector, be turned on, start reporting and the digital-ness of it all to flesh out by the end of the day.

Would be nice to see a Veteran category on Trackleaders, as the current cat split has Rookie only (which is not fully populated yet).  And don't forget about the North Bounders - looks like 4 of them started out this morning to chase down ITT rabbit D. Nice.

The TDR is so cool!

Looks like Loebeck is right there in front as expected.

Wondering if our local boy, Adam Jenson, is in there with him. Seem he needs to update his tracker from its current position in Missoula...

Good luck to everyone racing!

Just an FYI, there will be a Cordillera V3 this year. I'm just waiting for a proof copy from the printer before I post the link to purchase. It's a terrific book again this year, Paul Howard was our editor and he did a great job.

We will be benefiting Linnaea Blumenthal again in 2012. 100% of the proceeds go directly into her college 529 plan. Thank you all for your support, it's a worthy cause and the Blumenthal family is forever grateful.

For those of you not yet familiar with the Cordillera, it is a collection of the best short stories, memoirs and artwork from Divide Racing. Linnaea Blumenthal is the 6 year old daughter of Dave Blumenthal who died in the 2010 TD. Last year we raised over $9,000 for her college education. It is one of the best things the small but wonderfully motivated Bikepacking community has ever done.

More details coming soon!

I'll buy a copy for sure. Dave Blumenthal's story still chokes me up. Thank you for doing so much to help Linnaea--you are a good man, Eric.

There are several riders missing from the list.  Justin Simoni, TheArtist, isn't shown but is back for another.

So what was (or 'is') the weather like this morning? Still raining? Cold? Snow in altitude?

Seriously?!  What a fun development.  Is he riding the fixie that he's been spinning on all winter?  A lot less snow slog for him this year if he's out on course now ... he'll be feeling like it's a breeze once he gets into the Flathead/Cabin Pass/Wigwam/Galton part tomorrow.

Right, so more riders on course than trackleaders shows - some Spots not synced yet, some riders possible without Spot devices.  More than one Italian, couple of Germans, the Welshman who is yet to register a Spot, more riders from the UK, an American living in Germany.

J Ryter seeming to make good on his tongue-in-cheek "intent" of beating E Horanyi to AW.  Friendly trash-talk I think.

Funny how the refresh and sync rate of the Spots makes for early-event watching a little maddening.  It's truly hard to tell who's in front unless you're on the ground with everyone.  In truth, they are all really close together and the true race within race stuff doesn't show up until day 2 or 3.  Lobek just needs a good race in that doesn't involve getting sick or having parts blow-up mid-race, in my mind.

Glad to hear Justin is back - is he going for the "no reroute" quest again this year? Also, does anyone know if Deejay returning?

Hoping Lobeck brought an extra derailer this year.

Gonna be interesting how much time the tandem makes up on wide open roads like the Smith-Dorrien coming up.  They are just now finishing up the slower, tight-trail, with some steep pitches cross-country trails section.

No Dejay this year. He has been stage racing.

No but he converted his Kona to a single speed.

We'll have geared/SS categories up soon.  Also predicted finish-days from the racers themselves.

I believe we have everyone online now.  Pretty cool to see more than 100 divide dots!  Go, dots, go.
