Has anybody here attempted making a zipless framebag, similar to the ones revelate designs and porcelain rocket have made? Seems like right now they are just something for sponsored riders or friends (gypsybytrade and cass of whileoutriding and others). I imagine they will eventually trickle down and be a standard offering. I've never built or owned a full framebag and the buckle closure seems extremely reliable or at least field repairable.

Might get impatient enough to try a horrible imitation.

Do it.  I'm quite interested, as well, after hearing about the benefits and decimating zippers of my own.  I'd be excited to see what you cobble up, since I just don't have the time of my own to dream something up.  Good luck.  Keep us posted!

I certainly will follow up if I try anything, but it's doubtful. Having never built even a single compartment full-triangle bag, i'm a little intimidated.

Are there any pics of the zipper-less frame bag?

Pretty sure Scott at PR will do a custom one for you.

Thanks for the links, they all worked.  I like the idea a lot, and it will probably be available from PR soon, if it's already not an option.  I wonder what the weight difference would be compared to a zipper. The 4th link looks like a bunch of extra fabric.

Scott could probably do whatever you want.  With the "+" size and fat wheels, an adjustable compression-style buckle closure system may be ideal, but it does look more fiddly than a beefy zipper.  Buckles usually require two hands while a zipper can be done with one.

Has anybody here attempted making a zipless framebag,

You saw it here first
http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/diy-make-your-own-gear-(myog)/roll-top-frame-bag/
often imitated, frequently equaled or improved upon, lasts longer, a lot longer, easier to sew.

I recently removed a broken zipper of a revelate bag and converted it to a zipperless flap bag. it turned out pretty well! (pictures below)
The result was very similar (but not quite as awesome) as the bags we make from scratch.  https://instagram.com/defiantpack

ps. I'll be in Breckenridge/summit county on Saturday afternoon - sunday if anyone is over there and wants to see/order bag (aka have me take a pattern/ see what's available in my sample bin)  - kevin 303 709 5359

I personally will never get any zippered bag ever again. Failure after failure they will eventually die. Rolltops are my mantra. Never had one fail yet.
