I've been working in primitive skills programs for a couple of years now. Last year I learned how to tan deer hides using bark liquor. I scraped, tanned, and softened the hide that went into making my first ever sewing project...a framebag!

I mocked up a version and decided to change my zipper installation method from the cutting a slit way to completely separating the fabric. This looks much more professional when done properly.

I ended up rounding off the bottom of the frame outline to allow the derailleur to move freely.

It works great. If it wasn't clear, there is a center divider in between the two zippers and a smaller outer pocket on the left. I am going to add another velcro attachment on the top of the bag to keep the bag in shape more. Besides that I am stoked to have it ready to adventure in South America with me!

That's epic that you skinned and tanned the hide you used to make your bag with! I like your combination of natural and man made materials.
