I much prefer to use a regular digital camera, but having the cell phone available as a backup is good idea.... except cell phone don't have a tapped hole for attaching to a tripod.

Here is a quick solution:  2 aluminum angles from the scrap bin and a thicker base plate.  I used a piece of lexan plastic for the base.  The base plate has a 1/4-20 tapped hole for the tripod and 2X M5 taps to accept the 2X M5 socket head cap screws that that connect the 2 angles.  The larger angle has ovalized holes in it to allow for some adjustment.  The cell phone friction fits (along the rubber cell phone case) into the space between the angles.

To take a portrait photo, the head on my tripod rotates 90 degrees.  I might put a rubber band around the phone and bracket if I do this, just to be sure the phone doesn't slip out.

Tripod not included.

**The slot in the smaller angle does nothing... it was already in the piece of scrap angle (ok, I suppose it lightens the bracket by a gram or two).  It turns out I can access on the controls on the touch screen... the small angle doesn't block anything significant.
