What a great movie, really well shot and really gave the rather remote SPOT tracking and snippets of call-ins a human face. Topmarks for all involved  headbang

I just picked up a copy at the Ski Stop in Banff and watched it with my friends. It was very enjoyable. The filmmakers captured some great landscape shots as well as powerful emotional moments, and did a good job of summing up the sweeping experience of the race in an 80-minute time span.

I did think the filmmakers injected a bit too much of themselves in their own movie. Some of the clips were humorous, but I don't think they added much to the film itself, and those valuable minutes could have been used to show more of the end of the race; the whole last 20 minutes felt quite rushed. It is pretty funny they missed the beginning of the race. I mean, yeah, construction catches everyone unaware, but you think they could have planned a little better than that. I know I would have wanted to show up hours early if not the day before to catch and interview as many of the starters as possible. In my opinion, that alone left a hole in the film. Viewers didn't really get a chance to "meet" many of the racers before they launched into the race itself, and in doing so I think missed an opportunity to highlight the larger picture as well as the individual stories of the racers they chose to follow.

On a personal level, it was definitley fun to see and recognize the locations of scenes before they were announced. ("Oh yeah, there's Red Meadow Pass.") The cinematography was gorgeous, and the music was good as well. If I were a reviewer, I would give it four stars. Definitely worth checking out.

It was a shame that they missed the start and didn't get to interview / fly-on-the-wall before the race. Some of the film-crew fottage did make it obvious how hard it is to follow a race like this and highlights the remote nature of the trail. Quite different to the time-tabled rolling media circus of the TdF.

Still as an MTB film it is in the top 3 (The Collective and Klunkers are the other two)

Today I recieved my copy. As I am not a football (yeah football not soccer) fan, the game between Holland and Japan was "missed" by me.

Great movie! Truly impressed by the stories and images. It makes me want to go out and explore.

My copy arrived here in the UK a few days ago. I was grateful of some bike and great outdoor related imagery to watch. I've been off my bike and work nursing a broken jaw and various injuries after the steerer of my forks on my cyclocross bike snapped without warning. The film captured the quest for adventure the riders were looking to undertake. A little more background on the riders and their motivations would have been a welcome addition to complete the story, but I'm guessing budget and resources only stretch so far.

Hopefully the BBC will release the recently broadcast documentaries by Marc Beaumont entitled 'The man who cycled the America's'. on DVD. Anyone who enjoys the Ride the Divide movie will enjoy this highly personal video diary which encapsulates the yo-yo nature of the mental state of mind a journey like this provokes and the bizarre situations that you can find yourself in.

It is good to see that money and resources are been invested into documenting our particular guise of exploring the outdoors.

It doesn't look like it will be, "the man who cycled the world" never was even though it was rumoured to be, it  is listed for download here though http://www.uknova.com/wsgi/torrent/view/101151 (probably will only be available for a couple of weeks) and "the man who cycled the americas" can be found as torrents if you search around.

My blue ray copy finally arrived. I enjoyed the movie and can relate to the hardships that the racers were going through.

Great film for sure. Just one random question for you guys and gals. When you watch the “extras” like Matthew talking about his race bike or the before the race interviews with Mary and such does your video clip seem to end earlier than expected and rather abruptly?

If you think you have a bogus copy, take a minute to contact Mike Dion and the RTD crew. I ordered one of the first DVDs that was produced on a 'greener' material that turned out to have flaws in playback. Mike sent a replacement copy immediately.

And, quickly, another thumbs up for this movie. Inspired me to book an Adventure Cycling trip on the Great Divide route this summer.

Get out there!

Just got my copy and really enjoyed it!  Big props to the producers. I was on the media crew for the RAAM (Race Across America) in 1994 and I KNOW how hard it is to cover a long non-stop cross-country event. The race never stops and the only way to get any sleep yourself, is to drive a leg at night to leapfrog the racers along the course, then crash in the seat of the car and HOPE you wake up in time to see them pass at daybreak. I think we slept no more than 3 hours every night (and that was with one eye open) to not miss the riders coming through. Great job guys!

Before you judge a man, try walking a mile in his shoes. That way when you do judge him you'll be a mile away and have his shoes.

I've watched it at least ten times.  I thought it was great and I even liked the music.
