So I can see a little difference, but why is it called bike packing and not bicycle touring? What is the difference between them?  headbang

to me the difference would be, bike touring done more on highways/roads & possibly more gear hauled along & maybe some nights in motels, inns, city parks, etc. Bikepacking done more off road, backcountry trails with minimum/lightweight gear & mainly camping along the trail using towns along the route mainly for re-stocking & repairs & don't forget the hike-a-bike sections!

Thanks Paxton, that is the way I see it too.  Bikepacking is off-road touring, specifically singletrack and rough roads.  Bikepacking has been used to described bicycle touring in general, but the term has never stuck.

Bikepacking = backpacking with a bike = mountain biking with camping gear.

Or at least that is what the consensus seems to be gravitating towards.
