It is Dave.  The San Mateos and westward into the Black, Gila, White, and Blue Ranges is a remote region (with only a few villages/towns), with hunters and ranchers (and a few hikers) using the area. This is where there is a big controversy about the Mexican Wolf population.  And, water is typically scarce, although surprisingly the creeks were running for us.

Like the rural areas of other countries, much of New Mexico has sparse water and population, which makes bikes a great tool to bring along for exploration.

Thanks for the visit, and I hope it encourages you to explore there.  If you have questions, just ask.

Would love to wisunders, but don't have the route recorded in any way, but You'll find the route easily if you check the map for that area.  Basically its FR138 to the Apache trail, to FR478, to FR096 and back up to FR138.  Glad you're interested.
