HOW MANY PHOTOS DO YOU HAVE OF YOUR FAMILY AND YOURSELF?
HUNDREDS? THOUSANDS? MORE THAN YOU CAN COUNT?
WHAT IF YOU HAD NONE???

During my travels, I’ve found this is an unfortunate reality for thousands in developing countries and as a photographer I thought I could make a difference… one photo at a time.

I’m starting with Argentina and I’m planning to ride a new country every other year, making & printing Portraits for those families who had none.
By October I’ll start bikepacking 4000 miles (6000 km) along the Cordillera de los Andes, from La Quiaca to Ushuaia (through Ruta 40 and beyond).

I’ll be making & printing portraits for the local people I meet along the road and I’m also collaborating with Fundacion Ruta 40 (a local NGO) to visit the most remote rural schools they support to make (& print) their student’s portraits. Carrying a small portable photography studio will let me print their ONE photo on the spot.

PLEASE HELP ME TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT MY LITTLE PERSONAL PROJECT... REMEMBER YOUR SUPPORT WILL PUT A PRINT ON SOMEONE’S HAND!!!

Saludos,
Federico Cabrera

I just want to bump Federico's post because his project is awesome and an inspiration.  He has found a very clever and direct way to give back to those that live near the roads that hold adventure for all of us.  I gave Federico a little support today and hope other bikepackers feel similarly inspired, either to support Federico or find their own way to be generous.

If you want to follow the action, Federico has a blog:  http://www.theironlyportrait.com/blog/

I finished the 2013 TD.  I did the whole damn thing,
excluding the 2013 detours, in good style and—as
far as I know—totally in accordance with the rules.

Hola Matt,

Thanks for your support, it will put a portrait on someone's hand!!! But the main goal of this Little Personal Project (besides giving something back to the local communities I visit) is to show fellow cyclist/travelers that we can give something back to the local communities we visit, while doing what we love the most!

I'm not an elite athlete or a famous photographer, I started this Project from scratch with a VERY tight budget... ALL you really need is to be willing to make a difference (even if it's just for a bunch of families).

Thanks J. Davila!!!

I'm getting ready to departure for 2015's main trip in a few days (as soon as I'm able to fix/replace the studio flash that broke during the last warm up trip) and I should be back in a couple of months Smiley

I'm very happy because I'll also be giving away portable solar lanterns to the family that needs them most besides the printed portraits!

THANKS LENTAMENTALISK, I'm glad you like it!!! I was trying to show people how it felt to deliver these families (Comunidad Wichi, Paraje Nueva Población, Chaco, Argentina) their first printed portrait from my point of view! They're usually very shy with strangers, but kids were still very curious about the printing process Smiley

PS: It would be AWESOME if you could share the video & spread the word about my Little Personal Project!

Hola,

I just started a Crowdfunding Campaign as I need YOUR help with my Little Personal Project! Your support (as much or as little as you can) will make a HUGE difference to a family without a printed portrait Smiley
