Currently out on the Continental Divide and my rear wheel has a crack in it. The next bike shop is 250 miles and has an Avenir Weinmann 26" (jolly tech I think she said) in stock. Anyone know if this will be up to the task of loaded touring on the Divide trail? my other options are specialised Rock hopper or Handspun. kind of in a hurry due to impending winter so ordering one in would be problematic but possible. Currently limping along with the cracked wheel, just made it into the short Idaho section...

any suggestions welcome, cheers!

Plenty of bike shops in Jackson. The Idaho section isn't too tough. Stay off the old rail bed though.

Any wheel will be better than a cracked one... that said, I'd rather have something like a handspun (QBP's in house wheel building team) than the joytech hub on a Weinmann rim.

Hi, I think you should definitely take the Jackson spur and change the wheel asap. There's a small bike shop in moose, halfway between flagg ranch and Jackson and the guts there are nice. The do isn't stocked up but they might help you out.

 while riding the divide this summer I've also stopped there to service my bike, as the next bike shop is really far away.

I have crossed three continents on 36 hole Mavic 823s with straight gauge spokes.
